WESTFIELD – Due to recent rain, some construction operations previously scheduled for this week have been postponed until next week. Beginning Monday, Oct. 20, crews plan to begin setting bridge beams for the new single-point urban interchange at U.S. 31 and State Road 32. The first spans of beams will not be over traffic and should not require traffic restrictions. Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 22, the operation will require temporary traffic stoppages of up to 20 minutes each on State Road 32 between U.S. 31 and Westfield Park Drive/Wheeler Road. The restrictions are expected to repeat each night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through the end of October. The traffic shift north of 196th Street previously scheduled for Friday, Oct. 17 has been postponed to Tuesday, Oct. 21. Crews plan to shift northbound and southbound traffic on U.S. 31 to share new pavement on the west side of the highway between 196th Street and State Road 38. Contractors will begin removing and rebuilding the existing northbound lanes in that section of U.S. 31.
