The Westfield Community Development Department is responsible for administering the zoning and subdivision control ordinances and the building code for Westfield and all of Washington Township.
The department issues building permits, performs construction inspections, enforces local codes, reviews development and construction plans and leads the efforts in community planning.
The Community Development Department is also responsible for the coordination of the 2005 Comprehensive Plan Amendment Process. The Comprehensive Plan is a compilation of land use policies which serves as a guide for making land use development decisions. The plan recognizes the physical, economic, and social aspects of the Westfield Washington Township community and is used as a basis for the land use regulatory structure for Westfield and Washington Township. This Project is one of the largest projects in the City's history.
The Community Development Department is also responsible for the coordination of the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA), Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), and the Advisory Plan Commission (APC). Community Development Staff helps to ensure agendas, meetings, discussions and decisions are in accordance with the local and other applicable regulations.
