GRAND JUNCTION DERBY REVS UP FOR EIGHTH YEAR RUNNING

Westfield, IN- Soapbox racing is once again coming to downtown Westfield as the Grand Junction Derby returns October 1.

“We can’t wait for everyone to come out and root on their favorite cars and drivers,” Parks and Recreation Director Melody Jones said.

Now in its eighth year, the Grand Junction Derby gives residents and businesses the chance to race hand-built derby cars in bracketed heats. A gravity powered start via two large flatbed sends the cars down Union Street and onwards to a chance at victory.

The events kickoff at 3 p.m. with a parade of cars and tricycle race, followed by the derby car race itself at 3:30.

Following this year’s derby event, attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy Janus at the Junction, a benefit that features food trucks, beer vendors, music and more. With the purchase of a wrist band, attendees can enjoy a concert by the Flying Toasters.

“The Grand Junction Derby is proud to work with such a worthy organization and hopes that our combined usage of Westfield's downtown will result in a fun evening for everyone,” Jones said.

A portion of food and beverage sales will benefit Janus Developmental Services, which provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to participate and contribute within the community.

The Grand Junction Derby is once again sponsored by title sponsor Church Brothers Collision Repair.
