KROGER DONATES $1,000 TO WESTFIELD FIRE DEPARTMENT, HONORS FIRE DEPARTMENT STAFF

Westfield, IN- The Westfield Fire Department received a $1,000 donation this morning from Kroger as part of the company’s celebration of the remodel of its store on Carey Road.

“We are delighted that, once again, Kroger has made an investment in the safety of our community,” Westfield Fire Chief Marcus Reed said. “The company’s commitment to Westfield and the well-being of our residents is truly inspiring.”

Kroger made a similar donation in 2015 following the remodel of the company’s store on 161st Street in Westfield. Reed intends to use the donation to coordinate classes and purchase equipment that will reduce cardiac arrest deaths in the community.

"We are grateful for the daily dedication of our firefighters and police officers,” Kroger officials said. “The Carey Road Kroger team presents this donation to the members of the Westfield Fire Department in recognition of their service, sacrifice and community spirit."

As part of this morning’s ribbon-cutting, Kroger also honored Joe Lyons, deputy chief of administration for the Westfield Fire Department. Lyons saved the life of a Kroger associate at this store by performing CPR on her after she collapsed while helping a customer.

Lyons was off duty and shopping at the time of the incident, and cared for the associate until first responders from Westfield Fire arrived on the scene.

Kroger invested $6.1 million to expand and update the Carey Road location. New features include a bistro, sushi bar, expanded produce area and Starbucks.
