Jim Ake's career responsibilities required travel and several corporate moves. Yet, he always found time to volunteer. He held offices in both church and community organizations everywhere he lived. In 2000 Jim and Mary, his wife of 29 years, moved back to Indiana to be closer to their two sons and immediately became active in our community. Jim received many awards including Sales Manager of the Year from two companies. He was responsible for managing company assets in excess of seven million dollars. He created budgets, forecast sales, managed teams, and finished under budget and ahead of schedule whether in the corporate world or in his Tax Franchise business since 2001. Jim served as President of a 1200 home Westfield subdivision for three terms as well as serving on the builder's transitional for four years.
Jim serves Westfield as President of Westfield Community Development Corp., President of Westfield-Washington Township Public Safety Building Corp., Member of Westfield Rotary and Foundation Chair, Member of Grand Junction Task Group, Precinct Committeeman for Hamilton County, City Council Committee on Ordinance Revisions Member and is a member of Westfield CERT (Community Emergency Response Team). Jim also chaired the Westfield WeCAN (Westfield Community Association Network) Trash and Recycling Committee which brought citywide trash pickup and recycling to our community while saving Westfield in excess of one million dollars per year.
In 2010 Jim received the Westfield Fire Department's HOT Award (Helping Our Team) for his leadership in securing a $10,000 grant for their department. He is the first civilian recipient of this award. The grant is being used for Fire Safety Education throughout our community and schools.
Jim attributes his business success to being a team player and a consensus builder. He brings a private sector view to government and looks at things from an ROI perspective. In this unusual economic climate, he sees this as a primary requirement for any elected position.
