Finally, spring is here and Westfield is beginning to bloom. This spring and summer, W estfield residents will see many exciting changes as we move forward to becoming a City in 2008.

Westfield Town Council announced that Bruce A. Hauk, Westfield Public Works Director, has been appointed the Acting Town Manager for the Town of Westfield. Hauk is stepping in after Jerry Rosenberger tendered his resignation in March.

On Saturday, April 28, the second Annual Historic Westfield Day will take place in downtown Westfield. The event will begin with the Westfield Washington Education Development Foundation's Heath Fair and Underground Railroad Run and the day will be filled with int eresting era-specific performances, lectures and activities including Abe Lincoln.

The Westfield Parks and Recreation Department and the Washington Township Parks Department announced that a proclamation was signed at Monday night's Town Council meeting to celebrate Arbor Day in Westfield on April 28th. This year's Arbor Day festivities will be celebrated in conjunction with the Historic Westfield Day celebration which is also taking place on April 28th.

The Town of Westfield announced today that as a result of a partnership with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), The SR 32 improvement project (from US 31 to Springmill Road) will incorporate changes into the project plans which will ultimately include public opinion. INDOT has agreed to reopen the design plans because of the public input gathered from Westfield's development community, Town Council, Chamber of Commerce and Public Works Department.

The Westfield Fire Department is hosting a shoe drive for orphans this summer. Shoes for Orphan Souls is an organization that collects new shoes, socks and shoestrings, and delivers and distributes them to children in orphanages in 30 different countries around the world. Since 1999, Shoes for Orphan Souls has delivered 1.2 million pairs of shoes to children.

Westfield has begun the installation of their new tornado sirens. Last week, three of Westfield's new Outdoor Warning Sirens were installed and Duke Energy will begin to run power to those sirens this week. A fourth siren, and an additional Washington Township siren, will be installed this week, bringing the total number of tornado sirens in Westfield to six. Hamilton County will continue to test these sirens throughout the year.

The Westfield Police Department and the Westfield Public Works Department announced that they are currently in the initial stages of national and statewide accreditation. Both accreditation processes involve the voluntary adoption of recognized and professional standards utilized by law enforcement and public works agencies throughout the country and within the State of Indiana.

On February 12, the Town Council asked Cripe Architects and Engineers to conduct a master planning study for the downtown area. So far, the process has included five community meetings to obtain public opinion regarding the current issues associated with downtown and the possibility of redevelopment. The process focused on three components: land use, building topology/architectural controls and economic development.

The Westfield Fire Department (WFD) announced that they have partnered with a local hotel in an effort to lend a hand to individuals or families suffering from the devastation of a fire. Comfort Suites, located in Westfield on 151st Street adjacent to Westfield Fire Station 82, has offered its assistance to local residents in need of housing after a fire.

Westfield Town Council President, Andy Cook, announced today that as a result of the public input received from recent public meetings regarding the 151st Street Improvement Project, some aspects of the plans have been placed on hold.
