In May, our two new parks will be opening. The Splash Park, located in Westfield's Quaker Park behind the Public Safety Building, will be an exciting addition to our park system. The Skateboard Park, located in Asa Bales Park across from Westfield High School, is an impressive display of new skateboarding technology that the local children are sure to enjoy. Be sure to visit our website for the grand opening dates.
Also, the study for Westfield's downtown area will be completed this summer. We hope to have a grasp on what the residents want to see evolve with Westfield Historic Downtown and plan to host several public meetings this summer to gather public input on the upcoming changes.
We will be expanding our Public Works Department again this summer. Because of the rapid growth rate we are experiencing in Westfield, our staff has nearly doubled within the last five years. As a result, the expansion will begin this summer and will be completed early, 2008.
Also this summer, residents can expect to see more of the Westfield Public Works Resurfacing Project and road improvement projects. Our Public Works staff is already busy preparing for the improvements taking place this summer and fall.
Lets not forget about our new city elections happening this year. The Town of Westfield will hold an election for a Mayor and a City Council; the primary elections in May and the general election in November. In January, 2008, Westfield will officially become the City of Westfield and the Mayor and City Council will take office.
As you can see, we are approaching some exciting times here in the Town of Westfield. Stay tuned to all the exciting news by visiting our website for up-to-date information on all projects, programs and services.
Enjoy the spring!
Andy Cook
Town Council President
