In addition to breaking ground on a three million dollar office expansion, the Westfield Public Works Department will begin a 2.97 million dollar expansion to their River Road Water Treatment Facility beginning this summer.  This expansion project is also a direct result of the rapid growth rate that has been occurring in Westfield over the past five years.

The River Road Water Treatment facility, located on River Road, just north of 146th Street, currently treats and distributes five million gallons of water per day and with the expansion, the facility will be able to treat and distribute ten million gallons of water per day.

The expansion consists of the installation of two pressure filters, the addition of two detention tanks, one aerator, fluoride feed system improvements including two bulk tanks, a new building for chlorine feed facilities and one vertical turbine pump.

"We are just doing our part to prepare for the water demands here in Westfield," says Bruce A. Hauk, Westfield Town Manager.  "With the amount of development plans approved here in Westfield, we want to be ready," says Hauk.

In the month of June, the maximum daily flow for Westfield was 9.76 million gallons per day, and that was due to the extremely dry conditions that were experienced in the Indianapolis Metropolitan area.  Even with those record flow amounts, Westfield was not under any water restrictions because peeks were still significantly lower than maximum capacity.  "With the development plans increasing in Westfield, this expansion will allow for that same latitude when it comes to extremely dry conditions," says Hauk.

The project will be completed by Shook Construction and will be completed by summer 2008.
