The Westfield Public Works Department is about to break ground on a three million dollar building expansion which will begin within the next few weeks. This expansion project is a direct result of the rapid growth rate that Westfield has been experiencing over the past five years and it will accommodate the expanding Town staff. This project will be funded by the Town's utility budget and will not require any rate or tax hikes for Westfield residents.
The expansion will take place at the Westfield Public Works Department located at 2706 E. 171st Street in Westfield. It will consist of a utility office expansion, maintenance building expansion and renovation, a new salt/storage barn, and a streets storage building expansion.
With this expansion, the Community Development Department and the Information Technology (IT) Department will be moved into the new facility to create a one-stop-shop for residents and visitors. "Right now, Public Works, Community Development and the IT Department's staff do not have adequate space, says Bruce A. Hauk, Westfield Town Manager. Moving into the new facility will not only make it easier for our customers, but it will create a more professional and appropriate work space for those particular departments," says Hauk.
This 29,000 square foot expansion, which is a design/build project, will be completed by Indianapolis based Browning Construction and Cripe Engineering and will begin in July, and the final completion of the project is set for March, 2008.
