The Westfield Public Works Department is planning for another eventful summer, coordinating several improvement projects throughout the Town of Westfield.   According to Public Works Assistant Director, Kurt Wanninger, the improvements are much needed and residents can expect to have minimal inconveniences.

At the intersection of 147th Street and Greyhound Pass, intersection enhancements will begin this summer.  Along with those enhancements, a traffic control device will be installed and an Opticom device, which is a video device that links with the local emergency vehicles to alter traffic lights, will also be installed.  There will also be some resurfacing from 147th Street to Greyhound Pass, and residents can expect minor traffic delays associated with these improvements.

The Public Works Department will also begin work on the 151st Street Road project this summer.  The first phase of the project will consist of the construction of a boulevard section of road from Setters Road to Gray Road.  There will also be a round-a-bout constructed at 151st and Market Center Drive, adjacent to Bridgewater.  Residents should also expect to see minor road improvements to Setters Road and Gray Road.  The second phase will begin in the spring of 2008.

The Bridge over the Kirkendall Drain at 161st Street between Carey Road and Gray Road will also be rehabbed.  This project will begin in late summer and finish by year's end.  Additionally, the usual sidewalk improvements, street sweeping, mowing, street painting and various Opticom installations will also be completed this summer.
