The City of Westfield is proud to be actively growing our park areas and trail system for the enjoyment of the residents of Westfield.
The Park System began in 1994 with the opening of the passive Hadley Park at the corner of SR 32 and Union Street. The city is also currently managing active parks known as Asa Bales Park, Freedom Trail Park, Quaker Park and Simon Moon Park ; all of which currently have play equipment for children and pavilions for picnicking, which can be reserved.
Other parks aimed at youth sports activities will be coming online, as soon as funding is available. These parks include Armstrong Park and the Osborne Park.
Our park planning is done with a volunteer parks advisory board that currently meets as needed to address park growth, park design, and park issues.
Two of our active parks, Asa Bales and Quaker, will have major construction during the 2006 -2007 timeframe to upgrade these facilities per the plans that were developed by Green 3, our parks consultants, and our parks advisory committee.
The Trail System in Westfield can trace its beginnings to the trail built through Asa Bales Park in 1997 that connected the Westfield High School to SR 32 in downtown Westfield. Subsequent to that the Natalie Wheeler Trail was built in 2003 connecting downtown Westfield with the Hamilton County Cool Creek Park located on 151st Street.
The Monon Trail continuation into Washington Township will occur during the 2008 construction cycle and plans are for that phase to be completed northward to 161st Street with trail construction through the planned Viking Meadows subdivision.
Our Midland Trail running east and west through Westfield has a section completed on the Quaker Park property just to the west of Oakridge Road. Another small section will be completed by the Westfield Marketplace commercial project on SR32 just to the east of Carey Road.
