Westfield Special Census FAQ

The Westfield Special Census is currently underway! Here are a few frequently asked questions you might have:

Why should you participate in the Westfield Special Census?

Our population has grown tremendously since the 2010 national census.  It is important that we document this change with certified census counts so that Westfield gets a fair share of state and federal funds. Census data will be used by our community to plan our future. This is why we ask you to participate in our Special Census. EVERYBODY COUNTS!

What do the funds pay for?

Funds provide essential services like street repair, infrastructure improvements, education for our children, programs for our seniors, and other important services we depend on every day.

What questions will be asked during the Special Census?

Gender, DOB, and race will be asked for each member of the residence. The whole process should take about 10 minutes to complete.

Is your information confidential?

Yes, your information is safe and secure. Whether or not you are a U.S. citizen, your information that identifies you or your residence is private and cannot be released. Each Census Bureau worker takes an oath to protect your answers. If they violate this oath, they will face a maximum of 5 years in jail and a $250,000 fine. That is the law!

How do I identify a Special Census worker?

All workers will have a U.S. Census Bureau badge.

What if I am not home when a worker comes by?

A note will be left on your door with instructions on how to participate. Remember, EVERYONE COUNTS, so it is important for all of Westfield’s residents to participate!
