Westfield is a thriving community with a rich heritage

Visiting Westfield

Westfield is a thriving community with a rich heritage dating back to its founding in 1834 by Quakers from North Carolina. It has been named one of the “Top Ten Places to Raise a Family” by Family Circle Magazine and has consistently been recognized as one of the best places to live in Indiana and the country.

Located just 30 minutes north of downtown Indianapolis, Westfield boasts a nationally-recognized school corporation, diversified neighborhoods, pro-business economic climate, award-winning recreational trails and parks and a wealth of recreation, arts and sports opportunities for residents and visitors.

With the development of Grand Park, Westfield has become a renowned sports destination playing host to national tournaments and home of the Indianapolis Colts Training Camp.

Thank you so much. This is perfect. Now I don't have to go out in the heat.

Thank you! This soliciting law change is absolutely ridiculous.

Feeling classy..just taped a post- it note outside 🙄

Does anyone know the next steps to take if you have the decal & still receive solicitors?

This is now on my front door.

Not the raccoon. LOL

Good. Because if one more of these kids from “Aptive” come segwaying into my garage...he’s gonna leave on foot👊🏼😂The kid today would not take “no” as an answer.

Thank you!!!

Are decals available?

Debbie Michaels

Emily Coury Alexander I printed one for ya

Here are a couple updates to our Westfield Solicitation Ordinance:

- Solicitors are restricted from approaching any home displaying a "No Soliciting" sticker, decal or sign. However, solicitors are allowed to solicit in any neighborhood or subdivision even if a "No Soliciting" sticker is posted at the entrance.

- Solicitation hours are now 10am to 30 minutes after sunset Monday-Saturday.

A reminder that solicitors are REQUIRED to have a permit. You can pick up FREE "No Soliciting" stickers for your home at Westfield Police Department - Indiana during office hours.

Does this include these Mormon missionaires coming to the door at 8:30 at night. We have a no soliciting sign posted at the beginning of the drive of our apartment complex. But evidently they can't read.

There were two guys going thru Harvest Meadows last week selling the Indpls Star. I wondered if they had a permit.

Thirty minutes after sunset is 9:45 pm in the summer. Is there any rationale for why this has been extended so late?

They ARE allowed in the neighborhood even if there is a no solicitor sign?! That makes no sense. Is it a typo?

David Arnold

I realize it’s the law, but I don’t understand why the “No Soliciting” sign isn’t enough at the entrances to a subdivision. 🤷‍♂️

City of Westfield - Government .. why are solicitors allowed in a neighborhood that posts signs? 30 minutes AFTER sunset in the summer is much too late. Is there an option to change this? It seems like no one I don’t know should be able to knock on my door at 9:45pm or after sunset at all!!

Derek Michael, please stop by WPD and pick up our free stickers!!

They ignored our no solicitor signs in our neighborhood. They'll ignore them on your door. I know it's weird for some people to see this and wonder why so many of us don't want solicitors. For some of our neighborhoods we may have 3-4 solicitors a day during the summer. Now you're expending their hours to a point past dark? Who's decision was this?

This is disheartening. 10pm during the summer!? What is the point of a neighborhood sign now?

I’m concerned that they are allowed to come after sunset at all. It is not safe. It is also ridiculous that we have to decorate our house with a “no soliciting” sign at our front door, when there is one clearly at each entrance of the neighborhood. Our community needs to set higher standards than this.

What is the fine for the solicitor when your residence has a “No Soliciting” sticker?

This is ridiculous!!! Why is Westfield on the side of the solicitor? Who was responsible for updating this ordinance?

Hi guys. We are in the process of amending the ordinance due to legal challenges on time restrictions and blanket neighborhood signs. Rest assured, we have a long-term solution that we are hopeful to rollout next month. Meantime, we are asking folks to stop by WPD to get the “No Soliciting” stickers for their homes. We appreciate your patience.

The city was sued that it’s ordinance was unconstitutional and they lost. They didn’t up and decide to change it, it was court ordered.

I agree with much of the sentiment being expressed. I also reserve the right not to answer my door, even if you see me standing there on the inside. Plus, if you show up “after sunset,” you will not be receiving business from me...especially if you wake up my kids.😎

Thank you for responding. Makes sense.

I think most of us want LESS soliciting not MORE. This is super annoying and disappointing and I am sure most of us don't want to litter up our homes with an ugly no soliciting sticker - if we are even allowed by HOAs. the best thing people can do to discourage this behavior is NOT purchase anything from them.

I had one knock on my door before 8 am about a month ago. I was not happy! Does anyone really ever buy the crap they are selling? Can westfield ban soliciting al together?

I think Ring needs to add a Supersoaker option to their doorbells. That could make some serious bank.

Stacy Dedrick

Marion county, the biggest county here, has a specific chapter addressing this very issue. Sub header 1. This is absolutely ridiculous! Sec. 391-104. - Solicitors entering private premises. (a) The practice of entering upon the premises of private residences in the city by any persons acting as solicitors or vendors of merchandise or commercial services of any kind, when such person has not been requested or invited to do so by the owner or occupant of the private residence with the intention of selling or soliciting orders for the sale of any such things or performing all or any of such practices, is hereby declared to be a nuisance and shall be punishable as prescribed in this chapter under the following circumstances: (1) At any time when a notice is clearly posted at or near the entrance of the applicable residence forbidding such entry for any such purposes, (2) At any time after the owner or occupant (or a representative or agent thereof) has requested that the solicitor or vendor leave the premises, (3) At any time when the owner or occupant of the applicable residence has annually registered the residence with the department of business and neighborhood services as a residence at which such solicitation is prohibited, or (4) At any residence in the city after (a) thirty (30) minutes following sunset, or (b) 9:00 p.m., whichever is earlier. (b) The provisions of this section shall not apply to the delivery of any services, merchandise, or other articles of any kind previously purchased or ordered by or for the owner or occupant of such premises. (c) The annual registration of a particular residence as a residence at which such solicitations are prohibited shall apply to the residence from the date of registration until December 31 of the registration year. Thereafter, the residence must be re-registered on or after January 1 of the subsequent year. The department of business and neighborhood services shall adopt residential registration processes and a registration form in electronic and/or written format consistent with this chapter and shall make publicly available an updated list of addresses with the respective date of registration to which the prohibition contained in paragraph (a) (3) shall apply throughout the year.

To all posting negative comments, just remember that this way of marketing is "the good ol' American way"! I give props to all of those out there ringing doorbells, walking all those miles and pitching over and over again! My hat's off!! :) This is what makes this country the greatest to live in!!

I just had a guy ignore my “No Soliciting “ sticker and ring the door bell right at my kids’ bed time. Thanks Westfield!

I went home for lunch one day. Opened the garage door and pulled in. When I opened my car door to get out he was standing inside of my garage. That was pretty scary for me. When he left he understood that he was to never come back to my house in the future.
