FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Westfield, IN – Today, the City of Westfield broke ground on the new Monon Trail Pedestrian Bridge. The structure will span State Road 32 and a future extension of Tournament Trail near Wheeler Road in Westfield.

“The Monon Trail is a huge asset in Westfield and this bridge will allow more people to use it unimpeded and safely,” said Westfield Mayor Andy Cook. “The bridge will also serve as an attractive gateway into the city. "

When complete, the State Road 32 bridge will be almost twice as long as the Monon Trail bridge at 146th Street. The City of Westfield received federal funding for the bridge project through the Metropolitan Planning Organization. The city paid its portion through impact fees. The project is anticipated to be complete late next summer.

Established in 1996, the Monon Trail now runs more than 24 miles with the from downtown Indianapolis to Sheridan. According to Google, the trail is the “most searched” attraction for leisure travelers to Hamilton County.
