Gun Permit Application Process

 ***Local fees are accepted by MAIL and are payable by check or money order to the Westfield Police Department, c/o Gun Permit Processing, 17535 Dartown Rd, Westfield, IN 46074, or we can accept credit card payments over the phone at 317-804-3200.***


  1. Go to Indiana State website to start your application:
  2. Read and follow the instructions online to begin your application.
  3. Schedule your inkless/electronic fingerprint process with IdentoGO at
    • There is an additional fee of $11.95 for this service.
  4. Your state fee and fingerprint fee will be payable online via credit or debit card (please note this is the only way to pay your state fee).


After completing the first steps, you will need to complete the below steps to finish up the process.

  • Email or call during business hours (M-F 7:30a-4p) 317-804-3200.
  • The following information will need to be provided via phone/email for the background check:
    • Full Name
    • Gun Permit Application number (9-digit number)
    • Drivers’ License Number
    • Date of Birth
    • Home Address
    • Phone number
    • A Copy of your Driver’s License (photo or PDF is acceptable)
      • You must be a resident of Westfield AND your address must be current on your ID and match what is on your gun permit application or it may be rejected by the State.
    • A copy of your Fingerprint Receipt (if provided)(photo or PDF is acceptable)
      • Please note that files over 10 MB emailed to us may be rejected.
  • Pay Local Fee - See below for fee schedule. You can pay your local fee one of two ways:
    • Mail payment, check or money order only accepted, to:

      • **Please make checks out to the Westfield Police Department. They should also include your gun permit application number and your phone number on them.**
    • Pay by Credit Card, Call into office to pay by credit card at 317-804-3200.

For NEW applications, if there are no mistakes on your application and you have no criminal history, your license should be issued within 60 days from the time your local authority submitted your application to ISP.   You can check the status of your application online at  Go to for more ISP firearms licensing contact information.

To obtain a duplicate, hard plastic copy of your license or change or name or address:

  • Go to
  • Click “Sign In” at the “Duplicate/Status Updates” section of the home page.
    • Log in or create an account.
  • Once you are logged in, you will be on your status screen. Here, you can either request a duplicate copy of your license or update the name or address information of your current license.
    • Click the “Request” button to begin the process of a duplicate copy or to request a name or address change. You will answer a few questions and then be asked to pay a $20 fee for the duplicate license. There is no fee for a name or address change.

        *Applies to gun permit applications accepted before 7/1/2020. After 6/30/2020, gun permit applications accepted for 5-year permits have no fee.

        Additional Fees

        All NEW license applications incur a $11.95 fee for IDEMIA Electronic Fingerprinting. Additionally, ALL license applications incur an processing fee that varies according to the license type.

        † Fee exemption applies only to the initial license application. All duplicate licenses incur a fee of $20.00.
